I wrote the song “The Last War” in January 2017., a month after my return from the wonderful, insightful trip through the sunny Indonesia and Australia. As it is in case of many of my songs, the story behind is multilayered. It is the collection of impressions that are sleeping in the collective subconscious of all of us and the historical pain embedded in our beings, (intertwined with the deep yearning to be free).
It is almost impossible to understand the complexity of a human being, so in a way, I’ve stopped trying. The best thing I can offer myself and the world is to acknowledge all these layers of emotions – through music. Then the fear dissolves along with the recreation of the history.
For me, it’s the ocean.
It’s the tremendous joy that you’re left with when you leave your pain-body (as Eckhart Tolle would say).
“Did you know our tears and our blood have the same percentage of the salt as the ocean?” I knew we are tied to the ocean …..”
While I was writing the song I couldn’t stop seeing visuals in my mind. At first, I couldn’t connect the dots, but I just kept writing and singing and writing down the description of what I see. Eventually, I wrote a little screenplay, explaining what exactly I see with each line of a lyric.
However, I wanted these visuals to be for you, the same they were for me – merely triggers! A form of a comic book, not even a fluent animation, less so the actual film – seemed as a perfect choice!
Being a film composer, I do see things in a rather cinematic way and all the visuals when I compose/write are of the similar importance to me as the music and lyrics. As well as the way they develop/build up. I was searching for someone who might get all of that – naturally, without too many explanations. To keep it simple, while telling quite a lot!
